Why use an eSIM in Mexico?
Mexico is one of North America's most visited destinations, and staying connected matters - calling an Uber in Mexico City, messaging on WhatsApp, navigating to a cenote, or keeping in touch from a Cancún resort. Roaming on your home carrier can be costly; a dedicated Mexico eSIM solves that.

Common questions about Mexico eSIM
Everything you need to know before you buy. More answers at our full FAQ page.
What is an eSIM and how does it work?
An eSIM (embedded SIM) is a digital SIM card built into your phone. Instead of inserting a plastic card, you scan a QR code in your phone's Settings. Your Mexico data plan activates in minutes - no store visit, no mail delivery, no SIM tray needed.
Will my phone work with an eSIM for Mexico?
Most modern iPhones (XS/XR 2018 and newer, including all iPhone 11-16 models) and many Android phones (Google Pixel 3+, Samsung Galaxy S20+) support eSIM. Your phone must also be carrier-unlocked to use an international eSIM.
Check on iPhone: Settings → General → About → Carrier Lock. If it shows "No SIM restrictions," you're good to go. Not sure? Ask our support team before purchasing.
Does my phone need to be unlocked?
Yes. Your device must be carrier-unlocked to use an international eSIM in Mexico. Most phones purchased outright (not on a carrier payment plan) are already unlocked. If you're unsure, contact your carrier or check Settings → General → About → Carrier Lock.
When does my Mexico plan start - when I install it or when I arrive?
You can install (scan the QR code) before you leave home - we recommend it. Your data validity period typically starts from first use in Mexico, not from installation. This means you can set everything up at home over Wi-Fi and not waste any data. Confirm the exact terms in your plan details.
Can I keep using my regular phone number in Mexico?
Yes. ApexLinx eSIM plans are data only. Your primary SIM stays in your phone and keeps your home number active. You can still receive calls and texts on your regular number, while using ApexLinx for all your data (maps, WhatsApp, Uber, etc.).
What happens when I run out of data?
Your data connection will pause when you've used your full allowance. You won't be charged automatically. You can purchase an additional plan from ApexLinx to top up, or fall back to Wi-Fi until your trip ends. There are no surprise overage charges.
Does the Mexico eSIM include a local phone number?
No. ApexLinx Mexico eSIM plans are data-only. They do not include a Mexican phone number. You keep your home number for calls and texts. For local calling needs, apps like WhatsApp, FaceTime, or Google Voice work over data.
Can I use WhatsApp and Google Maps in Mexico with this eSIM?
Yes. WhatsApp, Google Maps, Uber, DiDi, and all other data apps work normally over your ApexLinx eSIM data connection. This is one of the biggest benefits - you're connected the same way you are at home, without roaming charges.
